jam is finished


now that the game jam is finished the block on adding new versions has been lifted, I made copies of the jam versions and renamed them and uploaded them. I did this is I would like others to see how the game was like during the game jam era. and also, I have a fallback if something happens to the most recent release. I will work on finishing the current floor and the next one. I took the only complaint from the judge and added in controls to the main page.

  • This game has had a lot of Thought and hard work put into it. I liked that there was a story to it, it seemed very comprehensive. I did have a problem right at the start, I didn't know how to start the game so I had to find the controls in your GDD. The color palette was a nice touch, gives is a almost spooky vibe to it.

all together it is allright.

here is a faq I made regarding the jam

  • what was the hardest part of the game to make?

the HUD hands down is the hardest part especially if I forget to add it to the background or get the height coordinate wrong on the draw hud command below is a example of this if I accidently put the command 2 tiles off the hud.


for 1 this kind of ruins the whole vibe but 2 it also makes the game much more harder to play.  another reason is I have to make sure the update timer is done right because making it too long it almost never updates. and making it too short the game lags a lot especially with enemies being updated as well. in both cases create a slow hud.

  • what are your plans moving forward?

finishing the last floor, I worked on before the jam ended. and the floor below that.

I have been looking at other software to potentially port all of the games I made to other old systems. I also have been looking at gamemaker to make an official pc port of the games rather than a wrapper program called bubblewrap.

after finishing the two floors: working on jem of twilight until GB compo 2025 starts. hopefully getting it caught up enough for shadow flame at least. I will add this to the end of the development cycle of games to work on

  • will this game tie into another game?

yes but that is much in the future, but it is with a game already out. 

  • in jem of twilight's devlog you stated that jem was the third OC you made and the first and second have yet to be released have they been released yet?

yes, the first two original characters did make their debut in this game in fact you even play as one of them near the end of the starting floor. some changes were made from their original designs, but it was more to distinguish them from the other also, so I have a excuse to use them in a jam setting. these 2 characters will become very important in the series to come. 

  • can you give your current development cycle?

yes but this can change at any point
