Temporal Light: Shadow Flame
This is a spinoff game of the Temporal Light series. This takes place in a parallel universe in which light unintentionally did severe damage to wolf city killing many characters from jem of twilight. The main protagonist peryil burnfeather is the daughter of cedric burnfeather and ember burnfeather. As she investigates her father’s death. this game is cannon in the multiverse but not in the jem of twilight universe as this is a parallel universe to that game as a continuation (story wise) of an ending in chapter 4(not yet available).
this game was made for the pirate games game jam with the theme shadows and alchemy. taken directly from the game design document.
Alchemy is a large part of this game which changes Peryil into different races to access many parts of the game’s worlds. How she does it is through potions and magical berries
Shadows is a part of the game on the story element side of things. As you progress you find out Cedric wasn’t the best person and killed many people then using his position of the solar council to blame others. As well as what happened to light.
Level 4 has been released
the demo currently contains 4 story levels levels in which the first transformation is unlocked on completion of the 2nd level. (the boss is very uncomfortable with touching your character)). the second is unlocked at the end of the 3rd chapter.
there is a bonus level for finding all special keys (will be changed to 20 keys once level 5 is released)
I also included the compiled gameboy and gameboy color and analog pocket versions of the game that can be used in an emulator. (The web and pocket versions use the gameboy color as a base. the only difference between the color version and the normal gameboy is the normal gameboy is compatable with all gameboy varients but has significantly less ram and vram (video ram) allowed)
since peryil is a phoenix, this character has the ability to infinitely jump.
controls:
Gameboy
D-pad to move peryil
D-pad up to jump
A to interact with environment
B to run as well as use projectile magic matching the form peryil is in
Select to change form (it will cycle through the forms)
Start to pause the game
Keyboard bindings on browser/PC
Dpad- wasd/ arrow keys/8,4,2,6 (numpad directional)
A: alt, z, j, q, numpad 1
B: control, k, x, e, numpad 3
Select: shift, tab, f ,numpad 9
start: enter, escape, r, 7
I modified a version of bubble wrap (web to executable compiler that is a modified version of electron optimized for gb studio games) to add windows and Linux versions. these may be slower to update
since I don't think I made the top 50 I am updating the game. If you still want to play the jam version of the game, I provided it. it will have jam at the end of the download name. even the web version will be downloadable. the instructions to make it runnable is in the download and install instructions.
this update is a more recent version that adds the pause screen as well as started development on special stage 1. since it is in development, I put a warning before you start the level to allow you to return to lunar outpost to save. I also added music for chapter 5 to the soundtrack. still no maps yet as special stage 1 takes precedence. for this version to unlock the special stage you need to get all 17 secret keys. (It will reset the counter to 0. in the full version it will require 20).
special stages do not necessarily use the same rules as the main levels. some will allow you to play as different characters, and some will have different mechanics/styles.

Install instructions
for the windows and Linux versions after unzipping it select the appropriate version according to your system's architecture. (most computers now a days use either 64 bit or arm64 bit. other versions are for extended compatibility)
to run the web version of this, use this command in command prompt in the main web folder you will need to have python installed on your device.
python -m http.server
then enter http://localhost:8000 (go to the number it specifies but usually it is 8000) in your browser of choice
to stop the server, go back to the command prompt and press control and c.
there is 1 downside to that command is it caches the server into the web browser you use meaning if you go between versions, it will only play the first one. here is an alternate version if you are going back and forth between the versions
npm install -g nodemon (only need to do this once)
nodemon --exec python -m http.server
then enter http://localhost:8000 (go to the number it specifies but usually it is 8000) in your browser of choice
reload the page if you restart the server.
to stop the server, go back to the command prompt and press control and c
for either method DO NOT CLOSE THE COMMAND TERMINAL WITHOUT CLOSING THE SERVER FIRST. otherwise, you cannot close it/update without restarting the whole device.

I love this aesthetic! Enjoy the retro feel, and the sounds as well. Interesting concept, can't wait to see more
I have no idea how I died to be honest LOL, I found the secret key and then I may have pressed a button or something
In any case it seems like you have a lot of lore for these characters!
I recomend going back after unlocking a transformation. If you didn't notice the blue area drains peryil's health rapidly as she is a fire bird elemental (Phoenix) in deep water.(the rate is roughly 1hp/sec)
OHH that makes sense, thanks!
Hey dude i played a good amount of it it's fun i hope you dont mind but i made you a cover art you can use it if ya want :-) check my game out if ya want let me know what ya think if your worthy :-) keep up the good work
@jakeoff what software did you use to create the image. the game you made looked good, and I do agree with the comments. this image looks good, but I prefer to use my own. the reason why I ask is there were a few oddities such as extra words, incorrect color of the diamond dust. and wrong color of the berries. (the last one is forgivable since the image is small and it is hard to tell what they looked like), if you want here is the reference story for the berries, I used (foxberries). this takes place well over 10 years before the events of this game. these are the exact same type in that story you can also read the other stories on that same github but most are encrypted). here is a preview for level 2 the face rooms are ones I have not yet started.
Np dude i just used paint and some old assets i had and resized everything i agree it its not perfect and i completely understand you can do whatever you want to it keep up the good work dude!!!
