Frequently asked questions.

this is a dev log that allows you to add questions on the game or series lore. (if series lore if the question is too direct like tell how the game ends, I may not answer but you may ask specific questions like does Peryil kill the slime boss in chapter 4(yes, she does). below is a few that I have gotten during the judging window and some that are variations of questions. PLEASE DO NOT PUT BUGS/GLITCHES IN the comments of this dev log. this is a lore discussion not a glitch/bug fix forum.

1. is the ability to jump infinitely a glitch? NO, it is an intended feature this is due to Peryil being a phoenix and all of Peryil's forms technically do not remove the ability to fly.

2.what is Peryil? at the beginning she starts as a humanoid phoenix. as you progress, she gains the ability to change into different races

3.wait dragons have hair shouldn't it be scales? while both European and Asian mythology has dragons with scales, but some do have hair especially in Asian mythology. the temporal light uses European, Asian mythology, as well as my own imagination. steam is a dwarf water dragon as usually they are easily over 8ft tall. and no this is not meaning he is part dwarf. just the variant of dragon is small in size.

4. why are most monsters humanoid? almost all monsters are far off decedents of Homo-Magica a sister species of Homo-Sapien. (standard human). at the time of writing this I have not put it in the wiki for this game but here is the one from jem of twilight: Homo magica · SpaceTimeWarrior/temporal-light-Jem-of-Twilight Wiki (github.com)

5. who killed Cedric Burnfeather? this question will go unanswered until at least chapter 5 but can be delayed until chapter 6. I will give a hint though it is also a character in Jem of twilight.

6. what are the keys meant for? special levels/skins/secret endings

7. is the ending of Jem of twilight relevant to this game? considering that a character is wondering the multiverse, and a major villain is controlling characters in multiple universes. it is possible.

8. is this game's ending relevant to Jem of twilight? NO but there may be secret parallels to light's adventure which is a continuation to Jem of twilight.

9. Is Blight the character that is responsible for everything? while she does irritate the solar council, she is mostly innocent of crime surprisingly compared to most solar council members she has misdemeanors at best. I will say she did not kill Cedric. (or any of her crew)

10. why didn't you put in blight's crew's interviews? it is mostly the same as blight's memory. (but quite a bit more NSFW such as bodily dismemberment, extensive torture, and other things that where explicitly banned in the jam rules). edit 1/1/2025: in addition I tend to avoid going above a T rating.

10b. are you going to add them now that the jam is over? likely not but if I do it will be significantly reduced as even though the jam is over, I will try to continue following the rules (excluding the time frame)

11. what is your policy on mods or fangames? it is also in the GitHub license but Temporal Light Fan content policy - Google Drive

12. are you going to abandon any of your past projects? other than Jem's magic lesson or the Minecraft mod for the series. No but I will focus on the current game for about a month or two.

13. are you going to use a more advanced engine such as Gamemaker? for Jem's magic lesson I actually did. but for now, no.  when Gamemaker changed their license the intentionally excluded GMS2 licenses from getting updates. (commercially that is, and I am tired of their support). Godot is a good idea but if I want to retrofit the GB-studio games I will need an engine similar to Gamemaker as I need the ability to target specific objects and have an event system, I will also need to have a program to build the sprites as most are in like 20 pieces (minor but annoying issue). I will need the ability to create shaders for the maps and the characters or manually color in the whole thing. edit 1/1/2025: once I finish these games, I will recreate the games in Gamemaker, but this is their last chance. (I got a commercial license as a gift)

14. is Blight a Mary Sue? NO however one has already been on screen they will start changing for the better when they interact with brier in a future chapter. while blight is powerful there are multiple explanations for how she got so powerful. first it has to be what she is. monsters magic power is roughly based on the average of their parents' magic storage. Jem's level for storage was 64 and Flare's was about 800 (he has extreme magic storage but no way to actually use it). second, she was trained by Jem's secret service which she personally handpicked the best magic users in their respective fields. although brief she was even trained by bright signet on mafia relations. with her many run-ins with the solar council, she did learn diplomacy.

15. what would have happened if Peryil never did chapter 4? literally what she said in the intro to that level.

16. has Blight killed others after the incident with wolf city? Yes, but in self-defense. she typically doesn't try to kill unless you give her reason to do so. she has done attempts against Cedric.

17. is Blight a goddess? NO but steam does idolize her like one. she is still mortal even with all the power she has. in fact, using her power against her is probably the easiest way to kill her (although probably suicidal depending on how you do it).

18. why don't I see a lot of humans in this game? by Jem of twilight humanity was on the brink of extinction and between Cedric's and brier's actions basically committed genocide on the rest. no pureblooded/natural born humans exist by the events of the game. (excluding flashbacks). edit 1/1/2025: the end of this game does explain why humanity got to the brink in jem of twilight Temporal Light: Hyperion War by TimeSpaceWarrior

19. what is blight's race? Blight's race is mixed. here is her mother's race: 50% kitsune and 50% Shadowcat. and here is her father's 99%human,0.25%angel, 0.7% Homo-Magica,0.05%trace other races (outside of the 99% many don't know where the 1% of other races came from as his parents are both 100% human)

20. (a question from Jem of twilight) is bright related to Flare? NO other than growing up in the same area and have similar tastes but bright is not related at least not by blood. edit 1/1/2025: (unless you go back nearly 5000 years where the families split)

21. why does Peryil die so quickly underwater? Peryil is a phoenix which means she is a fire elemental. fire elementals when more than 50% submerged in water, the water becomes very acidic to them. it also will create burns similar to a chemical burn.

22. how many levels are you planning? 8 story levels and 2 special levels.

edit:1/1/2025

23. when you say X person is a Mary sue what do you mean? when I say things about a character, I may speak from a character's perspective not necessarily from a developer's perspective.

24. who's perspective are you talking from? not every perspective will necessarily be the same. but if I were to guess as a follow-up to the last one. all I can tell you is they don't hold that character in good regard. (developer's perspective:  finding Mary sues might not be the best thing to look for in the series because depending on how you put the criteria you can argue nearly anyone is one or no one is. maybe you might want to look at motives or between the lines to find something else;))

25. since this game is a spin off in a parallel universe should I disregard anything pertaining to the Jem of twilight universe? NO. while most of the game takes place in a parallel universe it is still in the same multiverse. I will spoil one thing there are events and objects that involve multi universal travel

edit 1/3/2025:

26.I noticed there are no side stories of shadow flame or Hyperion war on the GitHub repositories will you make any? while there are no current plans it is not impossible. there can be a number of ways that generate a side story. 1. plot holes and large time skips. jem of twilight has a few of these. (part of the reason why there are two major arcs). 2. the story is similar to a deleted scene in a movie. there are many reasons for this. one could be brevity. another could be graphic depictions such as the case of "flare's vow". 3. the story is told from a different perspective and could not reasonably follow the main character of the game. in fact, one of these made it into a special level of shadow flame "crystal's cookie"(the unlock requirement is finding 20 unique secret keys). 4. it majorly deviates from the primary plot but does not contradict lore for the timeframe.  all games have a primary plot, some secondary plots and maybe a tertiary plot or two but the primary plot takes precedence over others. 5. it contains adult but not necessarily NSFW content and a majority of the game does not contain this. examples of this are smoking/ alcohol references, and suggestive themes that would needlessly increase the age rating of a game for a single story. most of these side stories have a warning near the start so the reader knows kind of what they are getting into. 6. I am one person. and even if I do hire someone just to do the side stories, I still have to look the stories over to ensure it does not conflict with the lore of the series or on my plans for the series which would slow down the progress on making games.

27. why hasn't shadow flame or Hyperion war received any side stories I ask again? the biggest reason is there is no major time skip "yet" in shadow flame. and Hyperion war to be honest I have been working on games and fleshing out a different side story arc to add more. Again, it isn't impossible for a story from these games to show up so stay tuned. edit 1/14/2025:  you might want to look at the shadow flame github soon.

28. could any side story be elevated to a bonus level or even a game? Yes, in fact both has happened. crystal's cookie started out as a side story and Hyperion war started life as a side story but was elevated into a game after looking at the length in fact it would have taken place after the "4th of July" side story which is part of the post chapter 3 arc of side stories which shadow flame branches before this because Jem decides to train crystal rather than put a restraining curse on her and as such never builds a bond with Blair. for a game to be possible the story must be long enough or be a large enough collection of stories. levels however just require available space and compatible mechanics. the last requirement is I need time to make the game preferably near a game jam so I can get it to maximum viewing (and it doesn't hurt if I get rewards from it. although none yet)

edit 1/8/2025:

29A. what is your opinion of AI since it was talked about in Jem of twilight? first off to preface this no AI was used for any of the game assets.  why was AI even talked about in Jem of twilight? this is because I wanted to have a talking point for the Jem of twilight, but I did not want to have an expert in the field look like a complete idiot that does not understand basic things. but also, others that do. the ones that do look like an idiot is easy without having an idea of what it is.

29B. any competitions I enter if AI is banned, I won't ever add it to game assets or code even after the competition ends. and one part of the other reasons why AI was never on any published data on the games is because one I have minimum standards for game assets and two the societal impact it may cause. sadly, I have not found any AI that has met the minimum requirements yet. I can see that AI can be used for good, but it can be used for nefarious purposes. this is why the fan content policy takes a neutral stance on AI. (it does not outright ban it, but it does not outright allow it either). to sum up this paragraph of an answer I take a neutral stance on it.

30. what is your minimum standards for AI.  these are the minimum standards for one of my games to allow AI for commercial use. however, note that these are the minimum standards and can still be denied for other reasons.

     1. the ability to view the sources that was used to make the asset. (I prefer to also have the ability to take an active stance if there is a source I disagree with however that is not a requirement) why this is a requirement is because for most art commissions that allow for commercial usage usually allow access to the source/references at the very least for insurance.

     2.  the ability to control what sources that can be used. if this cannot be achieved then all sources are opt. in rather than opt. out. why this is a requirement is because at best case only my art but at worst case someone else's art that has given permissions and terms

     3. I never entered the game into a game jam or competition that bans AI. this requirement is just personal preference (remakes/remasters count as a different game)
